Tobias Enevoldsen

Tobias Vestergaard Enevoldsen was born in Dobson, North Carolina on June 1st 1878. The oldest son of two danish immigrants, Carsten Enevoldsen and Kirsten Vestergaard Andersen. Carsten was born in 1853 and migrated with his parents and 5 brothers from Denmark to North Carolina in 1859. In the last year of the Civil War Carsten was drafted into the Confederate Army. He was only ten years old, but due to a mistake upon entering the country 6 years before, he was thought to be 15. Carsten only fought in one battle, the battle at Lynchburg,

and lost his left arm. He returned home one year later, and with the help of his parents and brothers, he was sent to school and became a veterinarian in 1880. During his studying years he meet Kirsten V. Andersen, a young nurse and likewise danish immigrant. Kirsten was born in Galax, Virginia in 1854, two years after her parents and siblings migrated from Denmark.
The two courted and were married in 1878. Tobias was born the same year and his brother Janus followed in 1882.
